COVID-19 pandemic has been spreading around the world
rapidly. Due to this situation, the Sri Lankan economy has a higher impact and
the entire Human Resource system has been changed in the recent past. Tourism
and hospitality, import and export are some industries that have been highly
impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Due to the pandemic situation lot of changes have been occurred in the entire industry. Therefore almost all organizations doing new things to retain the business and also keep the motivation of their staff.
Because of the Covid-19 impact, many unexpected changes have
occurred in the organizations. Such as,
01. No revenue (Zero revenue) situation
02. No customers for the organization
Due to the pandemic situation organizations has been closed for certain months and customers did not come in this season. It is caused to this zero revenue situation heavily.
Organizations retain and keep their staff happy and
motivated through mainly salaries and incentives. With the zero revenue situation, the organizations faced many challenges such as how to pay wages for
their employees, how to keep the psychological motivation of employees and how
to provide benefits for the top-level officers in the organization.
To manage such challenges, organizations,
01. Restructure their cost structure
From the Human Resource point of view, any organization has Human Resource costs. It comprises salary cost, accommodation cost, uniform cost etc. to minimize the unnecessary costs the organizations went through the entire cost line by line and minimize the cost as far as organizations can which is not impacting significantly to the staff members.
02. Follow
health guidelines prescribed by the government
Every business organization must follow the safety guidelines prescribed by the government bodies, to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus. From the training point of view, it is a challenge to the organization how to train such health and safety guidelines for their employees. It is a new learning and educational programme for the organization.
03. Handling
staff concerns/grievances
There are so many issues relating to the employees due
to the Covid-19. The staff of the organization going to be demotivated and they
directly come to HR. The Human Resource team has been taken potential
strategies to keep the staff motivated and calm.
During this pandemic, situation organizations
implemented some strategies. Such as,

02. Handling emotions
03. Counseling for mental and health issues
04. New recruitment & selection methods
05. New learning and development methods

- Upskilling and reskilling

ReplyDeleteImportant information Parami, Most active department was the HR department during the pandemic since the humans are the most important asset in the organisation, so many measures have been taken to mitigate the risk to people by HR department. However cost restructuring reduces some of unnecessary costs but increases some costs such as quarantine cost etc.
